In this film Bob searches for clues to help us produce better paintings. Working in his Melbourne studio, he investigates soft and hard edges, brushwork, water to paint ratio, drawing style, wet-in-wet and many other techniques. Using these clues he paints a variety of different subjects in the studio and in the beautiful scenery of the Mornington Peninsula.

This DVD features Robert Wade, a distinguished artist with a worldwide reputation for his sound, gently encouraging teaching methods. In Wade’s Watercolour Solutions, his fourth film with APV Films, we find him looking at the sort of clues that help us solve the mysteries of watercolour. Rightly, he suggests that if we gain knowledge and understanding of certain key elements and approaches, and are able to recognise where these will be valuable and effective, this will greatly enhance our chances of success.
Working in his Melbourne studio, Robert begins with various observations, exercises and demonstrations to cover such important points as the water/pigment ratio, how to create instantly strong darks, brushwork and wash techniques, format, drawing style, fitting the subject to the paper, painting greens and so on. Using this know-how he paints several subjects in the studio before going outside to work in the beautiful scenery of the Mornington Peninsula. His demonstration paintings are a delight to watch and are full of additional tips that will help us paint with more assurance and impact.

A fitting summary of a lifetime spent enjoying and capturing a range of different scenes. This is a DVD to watch and re-watch. Wade has an engaging sense of humour and wears his knowledge lightly. A master at work.
